Mission Statement:
The mission of the Shakti Center is to create a sustained public dialogue around issues of gender and sexuality through the use of fine, performing and technology-based art works as a medium of outreach and tools for community building. With our belief in the social value of the cultural discourses created by art and digital media, we at Shakti hope to carve out a safe space for creating networks of thoughts, discussions, and creative collaborations with sexual minorities and their allies as a form of resistance against structuralized violence and discrimination.
In addition, we at Shakti are deeply committed to translating these experiences into an understanding of how alternative, non-hierarchical work environments can redefine notions of transparency and the division of labor, and in the process clearly define efficiency and productivity within a collective organizational structure. To arrive at a practicable model of a collective, consensus-based work culture is of continuous and parallel importance to our mission.
