The Shakti Center is a collective of activists, performers, academics and everyday revolutionaries who are creating a public dialogue on gender and sexuality in Chennai.

Our work is an emergency broadcast for all people who want to explore, disrupt, and subvert traditional sexual and gender binaries and hierarchies and who are searching for empowering spaces. Our mission is to use everything at hand--do-it-yourself art, performances, rants, discussions, films, blogs, workshops, and everyday conversations--to carve out safe spaces for individuals to explore their gender(s), their bodies, their sexualities, and their politics. More than anything, we want to create an ongoing dialogue and vibrant community--a place where speaking, creating, and thinking about our sexual and gendered selves are empowering and joyful acts. In other words, we want to make the revolution irresistible.
