talking about gender and sexuality

the resource library:

because freedom is free!

What It's About:

In recognition of the need for extended research resources in Chennai, we have set up a library of books, films, and journals on social and cultural theory with an emphasis on sexuality, gender, and queer theory for interested members of the public. We are particularly committed to providing a safe space for students, researchers, and activists to access resource material from other countries and institutions as a way of enriching and informing their work. As a method of increasing the growth of our library, we plan to ask for donations of books and films from authors and institutions (such as universities, publishers, and think tanks) both abroad and in India. We also hope to find a sponsoring partner for obtaining memberships for journal archiving websites, such as Project Muse, Athena, and JSTOR, many of which have prohibitively high subscription fees. By creating a free resource library that contains works not easily accessible for the general public (either because of structural or economic restraints), we hope to increase the visibility of this field of scholarship as a legitimate site of political resistance and research, thereby widening the discourse on queerness and sexuality in Chennai.

The Catalogue:

We're currently in the process of updating our catalogue, but here's the latest edition for you to peruse. This only has books on it, but you'll be able to get a good sense of what we have available.
